The term “governance” bears normative, theoretical and methodological meanings. This makes it necessary to entangle the different discourses around the concept of governance and propose sound theoretical foundations to improve transnational comparative research on the governance of core-periphery relations.
The project will analyse comparatively the CEE national “spatial development communities”:
• their membership, organisational structure and educational institutions/research base,
• their (or different communities if present) most popular and applicable theoretical foundations (sources) and
• their policy discourse(s): (ideal) spatial visions related to national regional policy and administrative structures
In this project, a secondment of 1 month is foreseen at Geomedia in Tartu/Estonia for training in applied means of policy consultancy.
Tasks:
– desk research of available literature, policy documents, and interviews with national experts according to jointly designed interview guide
Requirements:
– PhD or degree on Master level and 4 years full-time research experience in political sciences, geography, economics, sociology or another discipline corresponding to the topic of the project
– less than 5 years of full-time research experience
– fluent in English
– good knowledge of IT-based communication tools
– readiness to participate in secondments, conferences and workshops
– excellent communication skills, capacity for teamwork, flexibility and an interest in interdisciplinary research
The fellow should contribute to the outreach of the project, especially by:
– participation in 1 refereed journal publication
– participation at scientific conferences, policy workshops etc. at national and EU levels
– participation in media communication, the development of a web-based Glossary, in creation of video clips and podcasts and spreading relevant project information using European Commissions’ communication tools
