The basic idea of this project is to analyse the role of renewable energy policies in the adaptation to new core-periphery relations in Romania. Research will focus on the role of local potentials and resources and the ways policy makers aim at boosting the living standard and to promote local and regional development. The project includes an analysis of best practice examples identified with the help of the Leibniz-Institute for Regional Geography and CERSHAS in Germany and Hungary.
Within the project the energy policy documents will be analysed and evaluated at different spatial levels, the energy production and management system in the analysed spatial units evaluated and the RES potential at micro-level quantified by elaborating an Integrated RES Potential Index.
Furthermore, different scenarios for the integration of renewable energy resources in local development will be elaborated.
The fellow will be integrated in the PhD training programme on Human and Regional Geography of the Babeş-Bolyai-University.
Secondments are foreseen at the North-West Regional Development Agency in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and at the Research Centre for Economic and Regional Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Békéscsaba/Hungary.
Tasks:
– Analysis and evaluation of the energy policy documents at different spatial levels
– Evaluation of the energy production and management system in the analysed spatial units
– Quantifying the RES potential at micro-level by elaborating an Integrated RES Potential Index
– Elaboration of different scenarios for the integration of renewable energy resources in local development
Requirements:
– Masters’ degree in environmental sciences, geography or another discipline corresponding to the topic of the project
– good knowledge of the energy policies in CEE
– fluent in English, preferably good knowledge of Romanian
– Hungarian language skills will be an asset
– good knowledge of IT-based communication tools
– readiness to participate in secondments, conferences and workshops
– excellent communication skills, capacity for teamwork, flexibility and an interest in interdisciplinary research
The fellow should contribute to the outreach of the project, especially by:
– elaboration of a PhD thesis
– participation in project and WP monographs, joint publications in high ranked journals
– active participation at scientific conferences, policy workshops etc. at national and EU level
– participation in media communication, in development of a web-based glossary, in creation of video clips and podcasts and in spreading project information on EU level using European Commissions’ communication tools
