The Introductory Event of RegPol² was hosted at Slovak Technical University in Bratislava from 3rd to 7th November 2014. The week of seminars, lectures, presentations and social events provided a fantastic opportunity for ESRs, ERs, supervisors and associated partners to get to know each other in greater depth and to learn about the diversity of expertise within the project.
Highlights of the workshop included keynote lectures by project lead Dr. Thilo Lang (Leibniz-Institute for Regional Geography) and guests Dr. Merje Kuus (University of British Columbia) and Dr. Ulrich Ermann (University of Graz), as well as poster presentations by ESRs and ERs. These presentations provided the first opportunity for the researchers to share their approaches to and interpretations of their projects with the wider team, to learn where commonalities exist between projects for potential collaboration among work package groups, and to benefit from valuable feedback from supervisors, partners and guest lecturers. The workshop also included introductory lectures in social science research methodologies to guide project designs in the coming year.
The intensive week-long program allowed project participants to share their initial experiences and build cohesion within the group. We look forward to the next time we will meet in February 2015 at the University of Tartu, Estonia!
